Thursday in Wellington

Britney is so excited. Tonight is her first performance. Last night they had a practice and I got to see the fireworks when I was waiting to pick her up. I loved this lighthouse fort. I think it would be a fun place to play. When I was walking today I saw some boys wharf jumping. It looked like so much fun. I went to Te Papa today. Love Mrs Moore

Wednesday in Wellington

Wednesday Hello Room 13. Here are some more photos for you. Britney took a photo from inside the stadium where she is dancing- can you see the castle they have built? The big screen outside is where they were screening the movie Brave for what they called Tartan Tuesday as Wellington gets ready for the Tattoo.I thought it would be fun to watch a movie outside. When I went to pick Britney up I saw some Army men- she said there is lots more in the show. They march with their rifles. I love walking around the waterfront here- it is so beautiful.

Warm Fuzzies - Positive Behaviour Reward

Each day as we spot the children making good choices, being role models, doing the right thing etc. we hand out warm fuzzies (pom poms) .  They have their own containers at the front of the room to store them in.  At the end of the week we count how many warm fuzzies we got.

We then fill in our warm fuzzie reward sheet.  You will find these each week in our notebook.  It will tell you how many we got and one thing we want to work on for next week.  Please sign that you have seen it.  This will also give you an opportunity to reinforce the great work they are doing and help motivate them with their goal for the next week.

For each warm fuzzie they get 10 house points.

Friday afternoons is going to be our developmental time where we play different activities that are aimed at reinforcing key skills - social, physical, and curriculum.

The person with the most warm fuzzies gets to choose which activity they want to do, the person with the second most chooses next, etc. etc.  There are only 3 spots at each activity so they want to earn as many as they can so that they get to choose something they want, rather being left to fill the gaps.

Our Kahu huruhuru

This week we have made our own kahu huruhuru (a maori feather cloak).

We talked about how a cloak is special and is worn on special occasions.  We all coloured in feathers with different designs.  Then Mrs Aberhart made a cloak out of them.  Great team work!

We are going to be using our cloak when it is our birthday.  They will be able to be surrounded by our Aroha - all the love and care that we put into making it.

The birthday person gets to wear it when we sing to them and then they get to share their birthday news with us.

The cloak also ties in with the whakatauki that we are using this year -

Mā te huruhuru te manu ka rere

With feathers a bird flies

Awesome work Room 13.
